Credit card Charges

Cash or credit card is the question. If you don't have a credit card payment facility and are considering a move in this direction then you should be aware of the processes involved regarding the movement of charges from the customer to your store and on to your bank account.

When you accept a credit card from a customer it is necessary to verify that it is active and that the amount he owes you is within the credit limit on that card. Stores and restaurants usually have a swipe machine which sends the data to a card processor which approves or denies the transaction. It also confirms that the card is active and has the necessary credit limit. Once this is done the transaction needs to be completed.

Finally the money is transferred into your bank account. While all this is smooth sailing most of the time. There are certain safety issues that need to be addressed. Many credit card processing companies have protection policies that absolve you of responsibility in case you are a victim of credit card fraud and for this you have to follow the authorization procedures completely.
